Tapping Into the Universal Flow

Think back to a time when you spoke to a friend in need, and you said all the right things to help him or her feel better or get perspective. You just opened your mouth and beautiful, pertinent support poured from you. Do you remember the feeling you had? You felt great, and I will bet the person you helped had a gleam of hope in her eyes, too. This was tapping into conscious intuition. You took a risk and maybe said things you wouldn't ordinarily say. You were in the flow allowing greatness to come out of you. You might have even felt a sense of floating or being unattached to your body. This is it! This is what I'm talking about. Trusting and knowing and flowing--intuition.

When you tap into the Universal Flow regularly, your focal point begins to shift to a greater sense of knowing and understanding. This is when your personal intuition becomes more keen and discerning, and achieving this state of awareness takes two extremely important commitments on your part--desire and practice.

The desire to achieve intelligent and accurate intuition engages your own emotions. When your wish to accomplish something is strong, you break through personal fears and emotional stumbling blocks. You open the subconscious path so that understanding and utilizing universal knowledge becomes easy.

Once you head down the path of intuition, there's no turning back. Of course, this is true of any undertaking. You gather different experiences and knowledge, and therefore, you enlighten and change yourself forever. But this is good. Change is a constant on this planet, so I've found that it's best to embrace it and flow.

Without doubt, cultivating your own personal intuition will change you. You will never look at anything in the same way. You will not hear words the same. Your relationships will change. For many, your basic thoughts about life and death will shift. This is good. Especially if you once held the one-dimensional thought of--you are born, you pay taxes and you die. I know most people don't actually believe this premise, but sometimes they act as if they do through limited and fearful thought processes and actions.

At some point, you might say to yourself that all these changes sound scary as if your basic emotional foundations are crumbling beneath your feet. Well, some of them are. Let go of the negative obstacles that hold you back from deeply knowing yourself and your intuition. It will be okay.

Take all these changes gradually; one step at a time. If they need to be baby steps, so be it. Many have likened this process to peeling an onion. One layer at a time is shed. One negative block peels off revealing another yet to be discovered and worked on. From time to time, give yourself a break. Go rent a couple funny movies or read a good book and allow some space before you shed another layer of the onion. Then when you are ready, go for it again.

Does this all sound too big? Too much? Well life is big. One lifetime is immense. For most, we are incarnate for about 70 to 90 years--give or take, and that's a lot of time. One being can accomplish much within that period of time. Jesus was only 33 when his physical form died, and look what he offered and is still offering. Michael Jordan was 40 when he retired as one of the best basketball players of all time, and Julia Child taught culinary skills well into her eighties. It is never too late and it's never too soon to take full advantage of every moment.

Changing your life and nurturing your intuition in positive and empowering ways is similar to raising a child. In both situations, some of the most intense pain and worrying are dwarfed by incredible joy, laughter and love. Allow yourself to experience these emotions. And when life gets too big, let joy, laughter and love be your teachers.

Empowerment

Empowerment is the act of taking personal power and applying it to something. That confidence is key when working with intuition. When you apply your personal power to anything, especially intuition, you feel a sense of certainty of the accuracy, enabling you to continue with your discoveries. You give yourself authority to listen to and act on your intuition.

A while ago, I was having tea with a friend of mine, Jan, who was in the beginning stages of tapping into her conscious intuition. "I had the clearest meditation about my fifteen year old son, Toby," she said. "He was swimming in the ocean and the water kept splashing up over his head. I knew he wasn’t going to drown, but he could not always stay above the water. Periodically, he would come up out of the water spitting and sputtering."

I asked her what she thought the meditation represented. "I don't know," Jan said. "I'm confused. We don't even live near an ocean, and I wasn’t REALLY scared like he was going to die. I didn’t even rush out to save him." The longer we talked about the meditation, the clearer it became that this was not about water literally, but that the water represented the increasing pressure of her son's schoolwork and the added stress of football practice. Toby had free will to be active in football, but that had a karmic consequence. His schoolwork was suffering because his energy was split between scholastics and sports. He felt like he was drowning.

When you receive an intuitive message and you're not quite sure what it means or if it's beneficial for you at this time, taking responsibility and feeling empowered means that you are aware of the multitude of choices you have in any situation. In Jan's case, what is her best course of action? I thought Jan should do some meditation and visualization with Toby to unearth the underlying and true meaning of her dream. Well, she encouraged Toby to gather skills to be able to do both sports and schoolwork through tutoring. This took a while, but it worked. Jan knew there needed to be some sort of action taken with her intuitive impression. Nevertheless, the most important part of Jan's feelings is that she was empowered to act on the information that she intuitively received.

Intuitive Development & Spiritual Enlightenment

The two concepts of intuitive development and spiritual enlightenment can, many times, walk hand in hand. I have found that by developing my intuitive adeptness, I can tune into other's feelings and be compassionate of their situation. And by aligning with this person through counseling, I can help bring a sense of harmony back into his or her life. In this respect, improving your intuition can help you become more spiritual, more compassionate.
