Empowerment is the act of taking personal power and applying it to something. That confidence is key when working with intuition. When you apply your personal power to anything, especially intuition, you feel a sense of certainty of the accuracy, enabling you to continue with your discoveries. You give yourself authority to listen to and act on your intuition.
A while ago, I was having tea with a friend of mine, Jan, who was in the beginning stages of tapping into her conscious intuition. "I had the clearest meditation about my fifteen year old son, Toby," she said. "He was swimming in the ocean and the water kept splashing up over his head. I knew he wasn’t going to drown, but he could not always stay above the water. Periodically, he would come up out of the water spitting and sputtering."
I asked her what she thought the meditation represented. "I don't know," Jan said. "I'm confused. We don't even live near an ocean, and I wasn’t REALLY scared like he was going to die. I didn’t even rush out to save him." The longer we talked about the meditation, the clearer it became that this was not about water literally, but that the water represented the increasing pressure of her son's schoolwork and the added stress of football practice. Toby had free will to be active in football, but that had a karmic consequence. His schoolwork was suffering because his energy was split between scholastics and sports. He felt like he was drowning.
When you receive an intuitive message and you're not quite sure what it means or if it's beneficial for you at this time, taking responsibility and feeling empowered means that you are aware of the multitude of choices you have in any situation. In Jan's case, what is her best course of action? I thought Jan should do some meditation and visualization with Toby to unearth the underlying and true meaning of her dream. Well, she encouraged Toby to gather skills to be able to do both sports and schoolwork through tutoring. This took a while, but it worked. Jan knew there needed to be some sort of action taken with her intuitive impression. Nevertheless, the most important part of Jan's feelings is that she was empowered to act on the information that she intuitively received.
